How To: Wear White After Labor Day!

Everyone knows the ‘you can’t wear white after labor day’ rule, but that rule totally does not exist. [it was real that day I wore a vest? BECAUSE THAT VEST WAS DISGUSTING] But really- that only applies to white pieces that are in summery fabrics- like white cotton shorts, or things that you could strictly only wear to a beach. The lighter pieces are completely acceptable in the colder seasons. I personally LOVE wearing whites and creams all year round! The key to doing it is all in the fabric and the shape!

Here are some tips in case you were worried about wearing white after labor day-

1. Fabric
The color isn’t the issue in the fall season- it’s the fabric and the texture. The real rule is to not wear summer pieces during the colder months [white cotton day dresses, for example]. Wearing thicker sweaters, jackets and dresses in white are completely ok as long as it’s not something you could also wear to the beach.

2. Keep it Neutral
Pairing white with neutrals or dark tones in the colder months looks modern and chic [think black and white]. Whites paired with bright colors look summery- avoid pairing a bright white piece with another bright color and you’ll be fine this fall.

3. Be Comfortable
Remember, the key to any look is to feel confident when wearing it. If you’re uncomfortable wearing a full white look, opt for something like an accessory to ease you into the style. A white scarf would be the perfect piece to your all black look!

Have fun breaking the rules!
