Easy DIY Scrubs + Mothers Day Gift Guide

Personally, I usually create something DIY and more personal for my mom on her special day. I’ve always liked creating scrapbooks filled with pictures of our favorite moments or some form of sentimental gift. Here’s a list of things that are thoughtful AND easy to put together:

Spa sets are always something that are appreciated but typically are pretty expensive. You can create a spa like experience for mom without spending hundreds of dollars with these DIY scrubs. They’re luxurious and made with ingredients like a high end treatment without the high end budget! Plus you can personalize them with your own special messages and decorations. What’s even better? You can find all of the ingredients for these scrubs at a local specialty store [such as Whole Foods]

COCONUT ROSE BODY SCRUB
-1/3 Coconut Oil
-Rose Petals
-Brown Sugar
-Almond Oil

I’m personally using a mason jar for this gift. You can put it in whatever container you’d like, but mason jars are super cute AND can be kept and reused.

Fill your jar of choice 1/3 with coconut oil. Coconut oil is so on point right now- it’s super moisturizing and smells AMAZING. Seriously. You’re going to want to eat this scrub. Next, put down a layer of rose petals. You can use as little or as many as you’d like. I personally like to load up so you can really see the petals in the jar. Feels super fancy. Next, load up the top with some brown sugar- can you smell this scrub through your screen yet? Coat the top with almond oil until it seeps down into the rose petals. Keep adding more oil if you like it to be more of a liquid scrub- the less will give it a more paste-y texture. You can wait to do this step until the night before or the morning of giving your gift.

I like to give this gift with
Bath and Shower Gloves from EcoTools. It’s literally like getting an expensive exfoliating scrub at home for so much cheaper. The glove + with the scrub leaves your skin SO soft, glowing and smelling delicious! Plus the glove can also be washed and reused!

Wrap twill or ribbon around your mason jar attached with a label and a love note. The best part about using this scrub? If you use it while in a bath tub, your bath is left filled with rose petals! Aren’t you just giving LUSH a run for their money!

SEA SALT FOOT SCRUB
-Sea Salt
-Apricot Oil
-Tea Tree Oil
-Peppermint Oil

This scrub is another gift that is high-end luxury without the high-end budget. It’s a refreshing foot scrub that will get mom ready for summer!

Fill up your container 3/4 of the way with sea salt. Douse the salt in apricot oil until it is a mixable consistency. Drop equal parts [about 4 drops per 3 ounces] of tea tree and peppermint oil. Mix together for the most incredible smelling foot scrub!

I’d gift this scrub with your favorite lotion and a pair of the
EcoTools Spa Moisture Socks
. Mom can indulge in the scrub and an extreme moisturizing treatment from the comfort of her own home. The socks are specially made to help the lotion set in and moisturize even the driest skin- these can also be washed and kept!

If you want to make it a full blown at home pedicure set, get her a few of your favorite polishes and make it a girls night in!

Bonus Discount: the EcoTools glove and socks will be 25% off on their site using the code MOTHERSDAY through May 11!

If your mom isn’t much for the spa treatments, here are some other ideas-

  • Buy her her favorite set of DVDS- I personally would go for the Scandal DVDs and the matching wine glass from crate and barrel. Something fun for you both to do together and a gift she can keep. And if she doesn’t like scandal, MAKE HER WATCH IT. She’ll thank you later.
  • If your mom is more traditional, jewelry is always a standard gift. Baublebar has some great statement pieces that are GORGEOUS without breaking the bank. Plus it’s something different than the typical ‘mom’ necklace.
  • Finally, this gift is a little more on the expensive side- if you really want to get your mom something she’d appreciate but never want to spend the money on herself- hire a cleaning team to do her house for her. This is something my mom has personally said she would LOVE to have done.

The best gifts are always something that the other person would appreciate, use, but not necessarily want to spend the money on themselves. Shows you want to treat her and let her truly relax on her special day!

  1. Whenever I read a DIY post I feel so inspired to get crafty, but when it comes down to it I realize that I’m just more DI-Buy than DIY… Lol maybe someday;)
