It’s been awhile since my last nail polish post, unfortunately I’m back with a less than stellar review. I loved L’Oreals new Versailles Romance collection, so I was super excited to find their new gel polishes in my local drug store. The colors were bright and bubbly- a welcomed difference from the typical pastels out on the shelf. I was most excited to try Miss Pixie, a gorgeous royal blue:
The packaging is just like the Versailles Romance collection, including the rounded brush. No complaints as far as design and packaging go!
The polish itself was less vibrant than I had hoped. It also went on fairly sheer, taking 3 full coats to resemble the color in the bottle. Even after three coats, it was far less of a shocking blue than I thought it would be. Also, it still wasn’t fully opaque.
What’s even more odd is that it made my nails seem almost dirty. You can clearly see a dark line under the polish, like I need a manicure STAT- but I assure you, they look nothing like that without the polish!
The pro’s of a gel polish are usually that it lasts longer, and stays shinier. This isn’t a true gel [as in, doesn’t need a light to dry] but for the lack of color payoff, this polish also doesn’t provide a great sheen or staying power. My nails were chipped after one day, and the shine was gone in about the same.
I also purchased this formula in the shade “Bubble Trouble”, a jelly pink color I also had high hopes for.
Miss Pixie, Bubble Trouble
The pink had the same results as the blue- little shine, little staying power, multiple coats required. If you like these colors, you can find better dupes without the hassle. As far as the overall gel formula? I’d pass.
Have you tried these polishes before? Did you have a similar result? Let me know!

I did try them and I passed them right along to my 11-year-old niece! No bueno.

I must be in the minority. I tried the same blue you reviewed and loved it! It did take 3 or 4 coats to be truly opaque, but the reason I loved it was that it lasted 10 days for me! I kept waiting for chips, but it didn’t happen, and usually mine starts chipping in a couple of days unless it is gel from the salon. I also thought it stayed shiny, but it did take a lot of coats to get the color deep enough. I later tried one of the light purple colors, Royalty Reinvented, and went on a 12 day trip. It finally started chipping on one nail only on the 10th day. I was so impressed I stopped at a drug store and bought about 5 more shades. I hope they last too – that is the main reason I bought them!

You are confusing gel polish with jelly polishes. The point of jelly polishes are to be translucent color unlike cremes. You can add more coats depending on how intense you want the color to be. Its not uncommon to paint your nails with a white or nude base before applying the color to make it brighter and avoid the invisible nail line.
