Health and Wellness Tips

One of my most requested topics is about my health and wellness routine. I would in no way describe myself as a health expert, but there are some general guidelines I find myself sticking to. I’m not saying my routine is right, but it works for me!

Perfect Breakfast: Earth Bar Acai Bowls && Juice

Diet
I don’t follow a particular diet in the traditional sense of limiting what I can or can’t eat. I’m more concerned with getting the right amount of nutrients as opposed to keeping track of the number of calories I’ve had. I generally find myself more attracted to healthier foods because I like the way they make me feel [i.e more alert and energized as opposed to sluggish and tired]. Here’s generally how I break down the day-

Breakfast: Fruits
I like to stick with fruits for breakfast. Strawberries, blueberries, bananas, raspberries- they’re all packed full of vitamins, nutrients and antioxidants that are great for energy as well as great for your health. I’ll slice up a bunch of fruits and put them with granola and yogurt, or in a breakfast smoothie with protein powder. I really am also starting to love acai bowls!

Lunch: Vegetables
I load up on the green vegetables at lunch time- the darker, the better! I typically eat some kind of spinach salad with a variety of  vegetables like broccoli, avocado and corn. I’ll either grill some chicken to add for protein, or I’ll drink a protein shake on the side [I prefer the chocolate meal replacement shakes from Boost that have around 15g of protein].

Dinner: Protein/Vegetables
I don’t keep strict guidelines for what I can or can’t eat at dinner, but I refer to have protein with vegetables. One of my favorite things to make is salmon with asparagus! I will make things like pasta or potatoes from time to time, but I generally try to make less carb-heavy meals because they generally make me feel worse after eating them.

Dessert: Grapes
Grapes are my favorite for dessert. They can be sweet, or strong, and they’re the perfect end to any day. And by grapes, I mean fermented grapes. Wine. I’m talking about wine, guys.

Portion Control
I don’t count calories or carbs or anything like that. I eat more frequently throughout the day and also eat much smaller portions than are typically served [I usually eat half of what is served at a restaurant]. Try having a snack like nuts throughout the day- the protein will give you energy and keep you fuller, so you’re less likely to overload at meals.

Exercise
I’m definitely not an exercise buff, but I do try to get in cardio around 2-3 times a week. Go out and get your blood flowing! I also do general exercises with weights, and I really used to love pilates [need to get back into it… stopping is the worst!] Side note: I also feel okay doing less on the days that I decide to move all of my furniture around. That is definitely a work out!

[Jacket- Columbia | Shoes- Nike ]

Supplements:
I have really bad allergies to medicine like penicillin, so I’m open to trying things that supplement health and keep sickness at bay. Here are the products I take every day-

Agrisept-L:
I put 5-6 drops of agrisept in a glass of water every day for general health. It helps with cleansing and loaded with antioxidants. It helps with general stomach health as well as things like keeping away colds. I swear by this stuff, especially considering I travel so frequently

Bio Extract WO China Healing Oil:
I put around 7 drops of this oil in a glass of water in the morning and at night. It’s also great for general health and keeping allergens away [preventing sore throats, sinus infections, etc]. All of these water supplements taste a little odd, but their benefits definitely outweigh the taste!

TruFlora probiotics:
I take one of these pills every morning to add good bacteria into my system / help with digestion. I’ve always had an off stomach, so this combined with the water supplements help! They’ve helped immensely with a lot of the feelings that I thought were anxiety- they really were just from a bad stomach!

In addition– Biotin:
Not for actual health, but I also take biotin everyday for stronger hair and nails. You can buy the expensive pills from a hair salon, but the better route is to buy the supplement straight from the drug store [the more expensive pills touted for hair growth only contain minimal amounts of biotin]. I buy the 1,000 mcg form and take 2 a day.

Hope you guys enjoyed my routine! I’m not saying this is right for you or how things should be done- this is just what I’ve found works for me and makes me feel the best!

  1. hi!
thanks for sharing your health and wellness tips! i know sometimes it may be daunting to talk about a topic that many people may (or may not) share strong opinions on. is it possible for you to address (in a future post) on how you maintain your healthy habits when you’re at a holiday party or family gathering -basically an event where there’s unlikely any healthy food options. as well as how you handle comments by others who see your healthy portioned food choices and criticize you on your “lack of eating.”
